Minny’s Caramel Cake
Did I tell you I saw The Help last Sunday?
No? Oops.
That’s okay. It just gave me some time to put together a fun little post for you.
First, the movie was great. The script had a few changes from the book (one big one at the end), but it stayed very true to the spirit of Stockett’s literature, which really makes the movie so engaging and heart wrenching. The casting was also fantastic. I loved all of the leads. Emma Stone was the perfect Skeeter.
Bryce Dallas Howard was as fake and mean as you expect Hilly to be.
Viola Davis phenomenally captured both Aibileen’s pain and strength, and Octavia Spencer made you feel for Minny’s horrible relationship with Leroy yet marvel at her boldness in most other situations.
And there was also the extremely talented Jessica Chastain as Celia Foote, who offered a nice juxtaposition of Marilyn Monroe’s sensuality with a certain vulnerability.
Now I won’t spill anymore details right now, but I do have something amazing for you- a recipe! Or two!
While the book had me yearning for a slice of Minny’s caramel cake, the movie put this craving over the top. Oh, the drippy caramel and moist yellow cake looked divine on the giant screen. So divine that I went on a quest for a caramel cake recipe and found 2 that sound delicious.
Smitten Kitchen’s caramel cake looks drippy and divine. It’s a little less traditional than Minny’s caramel cake but looks pretty easy to make. Yum.

Then there’s these caramel cake cupcakes. You know how I feel about cupcakes. I think these will be made tonight, my goodness.

So, let me know if you see The Help, and send any good caramel cake recipes my way.
Xo.
